Natasha Jane Richardson, wife of Liam Neeson, daughter of Vanessa Redgrave, mother to Micheal Richard Antonio and Daniel Jack Neeson, passed away on March 18, 2009 from head injuries sustained during a skiing accident.
Already there is swirling interest over the details of Richardson’s fall and eventual death. According to Mount Tremblant Resort’s spokeperson, Lyne Lortie, Richardson had not been wearing a helmet during her beginner’s level ski lesson.
“It was a normal fall; she didn’t hit anyone or anything,” Ms. Lortie said. “She didn’t show any signs of injury. She was talking and she seemed all right.”
After complaining of a headache an hour later, Richardson was taken to a nearby hospital then transferred to one in Montreal. On Tuesday afternoon, she was flown to Lenox Hill.
Picking apart the details of her fall and trying to determine if early intervention may have saved Richardson’s life won’t bring her back. It won’t ease the aching grief her family is no doubt feeling. When writing about someone who has passed, I always find it difficult to outline their lives with a stream of facts and data, peppered with personal assumptions. The questions concerning her death are trivial to me. The depth of the matter is that we are now without another kindred spirit. Another star dimming.
Rest well, Natasha.
